Fire alarm installation in Somerset.
Our main service. Fire alarm systems designed to suit the building, installed tidily and handed over with the documents and the explanation you need.
Installed properly, first time.
Every fire alarm installation starts with understanding the building and the people in it. We look at how the premises is used, the risk assessment if there is one, who sleeps or works there and what the layout allows. Only then do we recommend a system.
At the end, you get a working, tested system and a clear explanation of how to run it: how to read the panel, how to test it weekly, what the logbook is for and who to call.
Tested and commissioned.
Every device is tested from the panel and in the field before handover. The panel is programmed, the zone plan is fitted and the logbook is started.
How an installation runs
Survey and recommendation
We visit the premises, look at the layout and use, and recommend a system type and coverage. You get a written quote.
Design
Device positions, cable routes and zones are planned to the relevant standard, usually BS 5839-1 for commercial premises.
Installation
Cabling, devices and the panel are installed with as little disruption as possible, working around opening hours where needed.
Testing and commissioning
Every device is tested, the system is programmed and commissioned, and a zone plan is fitted by the panel.
Handover and records
Certificates, logbook and instructions are supplied and the system is explained to the people who will run it.
What we install
- Conventional, addressable and wireless fire alarm systems
- Detectors, manual call points, sounders and visual alarm devices
- Interfaces to door holders and other equipment
- Emergency lighting and extinguishers where the premises need them
Electrical side
A fire alarm is also an electrical installation. We work alongside Somerset Sparks, our sister company in Wells, for any supply or distribution board work involved.
Certification
On completion you receive the documentation appropriate to the installation, which should record what was designed, installed and commissioned. See BS 5839 explained.
Common questions.
How long does a fire alarm installation take?
A small shop or office is typically a day or two. Larger or multi-floor premises take longer. The survey gives a realistic timescale and we plan around trading hours.
Will it disrupt my business?
We keep disruption to a minimum, using wireless equipment where cabling would be intrusive and working out of hours where the business needs it.
Who designs the system?
We do, to the relevant standard, and we explain the design and the reasons for it. If your fire risk assessment sets specific requirements, we design to those.
Do you install fire alarms outside Somerset?
Yes, across England and Wales by arrangement, particularly for multi-site and larger projects. See installation across England and Wales.
