Your responsibilities

What the law actually asks of a business.

In England and Wales, fire safety in non-domestic premises is governed by the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. It puts duties on the responsible person: assess the fire risk, provide and maintain suitable measures, including fire detection and warning where needed, and make sure people know what to do.

It is not as simple as ‘every building needs an alarm’, and it is not something to be afraid of. We explain it in plain English and link to the GOV.UK guidance.

Speak to Tom

The engineer who fits it.

Tom is our lead engineer. He surveys the premises, designs the system and fits it. Ten years in the trade means he has seen most of the problems an existing system can have, and he will tell you straight what you do and do not need.

We are based in Wells and also run Somerset Sparks, our sister electrical company.

FAQ

Common questions.

Does every business need a fire alarm?

The responsible person must assess the fire risk and provide appropriate fire safety measures. GOV.UK states you must have a fire detection and warning system. The type and extent depend on the building and how it is used. See your responsibilities.

Do you only work in Somerset?

Our base is Wells and we work across Somerset, Bath and Bristol. We also travel across England and Wales for larger and multi-site work.

Will you tell me if I do not need something?

Yes. That is the point of a fire safety check.

Do you carry out fire risk assessments?

No. We install and maintain the systems and equipment those assessments call for, and we help you understand them.

No obligation
